Job Description
Salary:
$70 / Hour Billing Specialist — South Kingstown, Rhode Island The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing and processing patient billing and insurance claims in a hospital setting. This role ensures accurate and timely submission of claims, resolves billing discrepancies, and communicates with patients, insurance companies, and internal departments to facilitate efficient revenue cycle operations.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Prepare and submit accurate medical claims to insurance companies (private, Medicare, Medicaid). + Review patient accounts for completeness and accuracy before billing. + Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and take appropriate action to resolve issues. + Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts. + Communicate with patients regarding billing inquiries and payment plans. + Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure proper documentation and coding. + Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance regulations and hospital billing procedures. + Generate reports related to billing activity, collections, and account status. + Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.
Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certification in medical billing/coding preferred. + 2+ years of experience in medical billing, preferably in a hospital or large healthcare setting. + Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. + Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and billing software (e.g., Epic, Cerner). + Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. + Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Skills:
+ Certification as a Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). + Experience with government and commercial insurance billing.
