Job Description

Description We are looking for an experienced Billing Specialist to join our team to help maintain billing processes. The Billing Specialist is an essential member and is responsible for preparing and sending invoices or claims to patients/insurance companies, correcting claims that are rejected, tracking payments, and following up with patients and insurance companies that have outstanding bills. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical billing and knowledge of industry codes.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITY & DUTIES

+ Preparation and submission of billing data and medical claims to insurance companies. + Verify insurance information. + Analyze accounts receivable, performing necessary follow-up. + File appeals and work denied claims. + Perform other financial services duties as needed. + Work with the billing staff and other departments as appropriate to communicate authorization updates, denials, and/or delays. + Monitor and resolve denials – including the root cause, resolution, re-submission of claims, claim acceptance, and payment receipts. + Posting charges and payments. + Ability to meet assigned deadlines and pivot to changing priorities. + Maintains a clinical appeal process for all inpatient denials assuring that proper documentation is provided to support appeals of unauthorized inpatient days or days denied for lack of documentation.

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Education:

High School diploma / GED + Minimum 1 year of experience in prior medical authorization and billing or a similar role. + Certified Professional Coder Certification, CPC (Preferred). + Basic knowledge of ICD-10 required. + Knowledge of CPT coding. + Extensive knowledge of EOB. + Ability to use office machines (e.g., copy machine, fax machine, credit card machine, telephones). + Working knowledge of medical terminology, scheduling, and procedures desired. + Proficient listening skills. + Exceptional customer service. + Proper telephone etiquette. + Identify and escalate priority issues. + Organize and communicate clearly. + Adapt to situations and patients. + Comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions. + Multi-tasking with minimal supervision. + Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. + HIPAA compliance. + Reliability. + Strong work ethic.
