Job Description:
The VSC Student Support Specialist/School Certifying Official is directly accountable to the Director, Veterans Success Center, for the following duties and responsibilities: The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive leadership role in helping the College effectively manage change. Provide excellent customer service and information for faculty, staff, and students.
Function as an information source within the Veterans Success Center by maintaining a current working knowledge of policies and procedures for NWF and VA as they relate to VA student enrollment and certification.
Guide students through the onboarding process to include establishing a file, ing for benefits, and scheduling advising appointments.
Provide an understanding of registration and billing processes, as well as VA policies and procedures to students, prospective students, and families.
Maintain a current working knowledge of VA benefits to inform current and potential students regarding each Chapter of VA (30, 31, 33, 35, 1606)
Create and maintain student VA files to include document collection; verification of VA education benefit eligibility criteria; and updating student information in Banner and Enrollment Manager.
Certify student enrollment and review/monitor student enrollment for VA compliance and funding purposes.
Maintain status as a VA School Certifying Official through VA compliance training and conferences.
As a part of the college’s risk management tool annual mandatory compliance training is required.

Requirements:
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
At least two (2) years of documented relevant work experience.
Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of Federal VA Educational and other Benefits Programs.
Experience with VA-Once and Ellucian Banner preferred.
Knowledge of higher education processes and FERPA.
