Position Employer Reporting Division:
The Employer Reporting Division is responsible for processing the monthly retirement reports and all enrollment forms submitted by the member agencies that include enrollment and demographic information and earnings from covered employment. The division is also responsible for processing adjustments to member accounts to correct errors from previous months’ retirement reports. The staff within this division monitor the monthly reports for accuracy and works with agency representatives to correct errors or omissions. The staff also reconcile agency contribution payments to retirement report summaries to verify amounts due from or refundable to agencies. The Employer Reporting Division is responsible for calculating and collecting contributions due from fee-paid elected officials (e.g., chancery clerks, circuit clerks, and constables) who are covered for retirement. This includes calculating the amounts due, invoicing the elected officials and counties as applicable, and posting payments.
Duties of Retirement Specialist I:
Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists staff, coworkers, or other agencies with issues concerning retirement information
- Contacts PERS member agencies that are delinquent in submitting monthly wage reports and contributions
- Answers questions from PERS member agencies regarding PERS’ regulations when reporting employees to MyPERS.
- Balances Statewide Payroll and Human Resource System (SPAHRS) and other applicable records prior to accepting monthly retirement reports.
- Calculates, balances, summarizes, and reconciles employee and employer contributions and undistributed contributions for all retirement plans administered by PERS.
- Prepares member accounts for correction or adjustment of membership service credit.
- Assists agencies with PERS software questions and any questions relative to the various agency programs and functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of experience. •
Agency Preferred Qualifications:
The candidates for this position must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 0-2 years of experience. The preferred candidate will have work experience using Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel.
