This position is located in Raleigh, North Carolina in the Private Protective Services Section and provides administrative office support to this section which is responsible for administering the licensing, education, and training requirements for persons, firms, associations, and corporations engaged in private protective services (security guards, alarm system technicians, private investigators, armored car operators, etc.) in North Carolina. PPS conducts background investigations for the licensing of private protective services occupations, registers employees of licensed companies, and enforces laws and rules through administrative disciplinary processes and the courts. Specific responsibilities related to the Administrative Specialist I include: Processing applications of individuals who wish to be employed in the private protective services industry (such as security guards and alarm system technicians). Reviewing each application for accuracy and completeness. Reviewing criminal history background checks to determine applicant’s eligibility for registration. Preparing appropriate correspondence if the application is denied, and preparing and distributing identification cards for approved applicants. Significant contact with the public and industry stakeholders in person, over the telephone, and by email.
