Position:
This position holds loyalty to perform assignments or projects that directly aid the Commissioner of Insurance in the performance of his/her duties. Position is entrusted with information that is confidential, sensitive, or subject to restricted distribution either internally to the agency or externally to the public. The major purpose of this position is to assist the Commissioner with the administrative functions and provide support. The administrative functions include coordinating meetings and managing personnel by ensuring compliance with requests made by the Commissioner, establishing and managing office policies and procedures and coordinating with the private sector in matters pertinent to the overall management and regulation of the insurance industry. Documents and issues dealt with by the position are often sensitive and/or confidential in nature. Position must be aware of issues and projects in the agency and make determinations regarding when the Commissioner needs to be contacted immediately and when they need to schedule a meeting or call for follow up. Position is the NC liaison for the National Council of Insurance Legislators. Position serves as the time administrator for the employees of the Commissioner’s office Position conducts weekly scheduled meetings with top executives and regional directors

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Considerable knowledge of office management practices Considerable knowledge and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and language to compose written materials Experience in effective communication techniques, both orally and in writing Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with staff, officials, and the general public Thorough knowledge of program processes, policies, procedures, laws and regulations in order to analyze, interpret, and assist in administration of polices and procedure guidelines. Experience meeting deadlines, handling pressure during time sensitive periods and unexpected situations, and dealing effectively with changing conditions and priorities. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and six years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
