The clerk position is a key administrative role responsible for ensuring the smooth and accurate processing of building permit applications. Whether supporting contractors, homeowners, or internal staff, the clerk ensures every step of the permitting process is handled efficiently and professionally. Key Responsibilities As a clerk, your primary duty is to support the full life cycle of permit processing.

You will:

Receive, log, and process permit applications from homeowners and contractors Review and scan essential documents such as insurance certificates, contractor licenses, and tax registrations Maintain up-to-date, well-organized digital and paper records Forward files to plan reviewers or inspectors and track their progress Run monthly reports on expired permits and send out notices Communicate review results to property owners, contractors, and design professionals Respond to inquiries from the public and internal teams in a timely and helpful manner Assist with preparing documentation for certificates of occupancy, completion, or use Manage requests for file copies and help maintain the file room and plan storage Support additional administrative tasks as needed, always with accuracy and professionalism What Makes a Great Clerk The clerk role is ideal for someone who: Is organized, dependable, and attentive to detail Communicates clearly and professionally, both in writing and in conversation Can manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a busy work environment Is comfortable using computers, scanning equipment, and digital filing systems Works well both independently and as part of a team Brings a positive, helpful attitude to customer interactions Has a high school diploma or equivalent (required) Holds a valid U.S. driver’s license How to Apply for the Clerk Role To apply for the clerk position, please make sure to: Complete the application thoroughly, including your full work history Upload proof of education (diploma, GED, or transcripts) Include a valid driver’s license Attach the completed authorization and disclosure form (PDF) If claiming veterans’ preference, submit all necessary documentation
