Job Description:

Job Purpose The purpose of the Patient Collections Specialist is to review, prepare, and send all patient statements and collections letters for patient’s financial responsibilities. Essential Job Functions Review open accounts for collection efforts and discrepancies. Resolve patient billing issues and delinquencies while applying good customer service. Identify issues with account delinquencies and bring to attention of the managers. Effectively utilize various means of collection, including phone, fax, mail, and online methods. Maintain confidentiality in regards to patient account statuses and financial information. Provide all necessary documentation required to expedite payments. Communicate effectively with payers and/or collection agencies to ensure accurate and timely claim payments. Process any necessary insurance and patient correspondence. Coordinate with other necessary departments to obtain any and all appropriate documents and information related to patient cases. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be able to understand different insurance company policies and procedures and explain them thoroughly. Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing. Must have excellent organizational skills. Must have basic understanding of computers and necessary software applications. Education/Experience Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have at least (3) years of experience in medical billing office setting. Must have at least (1) year experience working with the general public. Working conditions This position works in the billing office of a busy medical oncology/hematology clinic. This person will have direct patient contact due to the nature of the position. Physical requirements This position requires that the employee be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for up to eight hours a day. Some walking and standing will be required when completing certain tasks. Direct Reports This position is not a supervisory position.
