Overview:
We are seeking a Hospital Billing Specialist with experience in hospital-based (HB) billing to join a growing team. This is a contract role with long-term potential, designed for a proactive, detail-oriented professional ready to contribute to a newly built team supporting complex hospital billing processes. Local candidates are preferred, and while some ramp-up and training can accommodate a greener candidate, prior HB billing experience is essential.
Location:
Tampa Bay area – must be local and able to transition to a hybrid schedule (onsite every other week after the initial ramp-up period). Equipment will be provided and must be picked up onsite on Day 1.
Key Responsibilities:
Review, prepare, and transmit electronic and hard-copy claims for all payors, including federal, state, and commercial insurers. Monitor, analyze, and resolve all claim edits and rejections in a timely and compliant manner. Communicate with coding and eligibility teams to resolve issues impacting billing. Work denials and rejections, identify billing errors, and take corrective actions. Submit secondary and tertiary claims when applicable. Ensure accurate claim processing according to current regulations, payer policies, and organizational procedures. Maintain documentation on billing activity and payer communications. Participate in projects, initiatives, and payer-specific research. Recommend and escalate potential process improvements. Cross-train and support other billing team members as needed.
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of recent Hospital Billing (HB) experience (not Professional Billing). 2+ years of claims processing and follow-up experience . Strong working knowledge of common billing edits, including: Edits sent back to coding Eligibility issues Payer-specific pre-emptive edits Modifiers and authorizations Experience using EPIC HB is strongly preferred; Cerner experience also valued. Familiarity with clearinghouses such as Waystar is a plus. Comfortable working independently without extensive oversight. Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
