Job Description

TENNIS CENTER ASSISTANT- PART-TIME

City of Fairhope (AL) Fairhope, AL 36532 JOB Under the general supervision of the Tennis Professional, the employee performs routine operations of the tennis facility to include scheduling courts, maintaining calendar, assisting with lessons, special events, and general maintenance of tennis facility. The employee assists with repairs and maintenance of the facility. The employee also performs an array of customer service activities to include assisting with paperwork, transactions, and responding to inquiries. The Tennis Center Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clerical, public relations and light manual and custodial labor tasks in accordance with established rules, regulations, and procedures. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Tennis Center and Facility Operations. The employee assists with the day-to-day operations and functions of the Tennis Center to assist with efficient and effective operations. Answers calls and responds to requests.

Assists with marketing of tennis facility, programs, tournaments, and events to include development of flyers, posts and updates on social media, and performs word of mouth advertisements.

Takes reservations and schedules use of courts.

Inspects and assess courts for condition, damages or repairs. Maintains and care for all courts to include clay, hard, and sand courts.

Brushes, spays, sweeps, pressure washes and cares for hard courts.

Scraps and removes algae, brushes, and blows clay courts.

Replaces and repairs tennis nets.

Cleans and refills coolers; sets up water stations.

Assembles and maintains tennis equipment.

Maintains the bends.

Removes old clay and adds new clay to the courts; strategically applies fresh clay to replenish worn clay courts.

Assists with facility maintenance (buildings, courts, grounds), ensuring a clean, safe environment for tennis patrons.

Picks up trash following large events; cleans and maintains facilities as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Tennis Programs. Assists with the execution of all tennis programs to ensure efficient and effective operation of the Schedules plans tennis instruction for all ages and abilities including teaching basic and advanced tennis skills including strokes, swings, grips and equipment selection and usage; and teaching tennis playing rules and etiquette;Assists with organization all programs, lessons, tennis leagues, tournaments, clinics, and camps and all related public tennis programs and other tennis related activities.

Assists with set-up, registration of participants, and disassembly of all events.

Schedules private lessons.

Sets up chairs, water coolers, first aid stations, benches and practice equipmentAdministers and enforces tennis court rules, policies and proceduresMaintains an accurate record of all lessons and clinics given and provides a monthly report to the Parks and Recreation Director.

Updates calendar of events for all tennis programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Tennis Pro Shop. Performs an array of customer service to include assisting with repairs of tennis racquets, provides administrative support. Responds to customers’ requests and inquiries; provides assistance and information.

Assists with tennis racquet repairs such as cutting stings and applying grip.

Assists with purchasing process and purchases orders for material, equipment, and supplies.

Performs transactions; receives and collects monies for tennis shop purchases and other fees.

Reconciles, counts, and balances monies received. Performs assistance with inventory to include counting and monitoring items. Receives merchandise, supplies, and equipment; checks shipments for accuracy.

Assists with acquisition of materials and supplies from City Warehouse.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Ability to maintain professional attitude.

Ability to handle and account for monies. Ability to use a multiline telephone and two-way radio.

Ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous and patient manner.

Ability to handle dynamic situations in a calm and courteous manner.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality dealing with personnel records.

Ability to prioritize work projects and multi-task.

Ability to organize files and work projects.

Ability to work with little or no supervision. Ability to drive.

Physical Demands The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity. Work Environment The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
