The Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller’s Office is seeking a well-organized, detail-oriented professional who likes the challenge of variety, and possesses excellent time management skills to join our team as a Courtroom Clerk in the Circuit Civil department. A Courtroom Clerk plays an integral part of our courtroom team by accurately preparing the official record of the hearing’s events. In this role, you will work closely with elected judges, bailiffs, defense attorneys, prosecuting attorneys, interpreters and other court justice partners. You will also learn more about civil law, evidence, legal documents that are filed in a civil case, how to use our case management system and much more! Learning these functions will help you build a strong foundation in growing your career here at the Clerk’s office! What does Circuit Civil mean? Our Circuit Civil department handles cases that are non-criminal cases in which individuals or businesses sue for damages exceeding $50,000. Examples of Circuit Civil cases include, but limited to: A person who is hurt in a car accident sues the driver of the other car;
A homeowner who has hired a builder to build a new kitchen sues the builder when the kitchen is badly built and has to be fixed.
A family sues their doctor for medical malpractice. This position is eligible to receive a 5% increase to the hourly rate, which has already been added to the salary advertised. Reach your professional and personal goals Examples of Essential Functions Prepares cases and materials for trials, evidentiary hearings and other court proceedings; attends court hearings and magistrate proceedings; administers oaths; performs administrative and clerical duties during proceedings; dockets paperwork received throughout the proceedings, including verdicts; completes all necessary paperwork resulting from court hearings, reads verdict.
Records actions in paper/electronic court records.
Accepts exhibits and prepares exhibit list; secures custody, prepares, transfers and delivers evidence to evidence department; verifies and accounts for each item.
Maintains court calendars; manages setting of hearings.
Ability to work overtime with little or no notice based on Judicial needs.
•This is a mandatory testing position, successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination (if applicable) is required prior to employment. Typical Qualifications High school diploma (or GED), supplemented by three (3) years of recent and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to accurately apply acute attention to detail in maintenance of detailed data, preferably in an automated systems environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Some vocational or college courses preferred. Once qualified, deputization may be required to perform the assigned functions.
