City of Byram Starting Salary:

$70,000 annually

June 24, 2025 NATURE OF WORK The City of Byram is seeking a dedicated and highly organized individual to fill the position of City Clerk. This pivotal role involves providing financial oversight for all City funds while performing legal duties as mandated by law. The City Clerk will coordinate, direct, and implement budgets, programs, operations, and policies as adopted by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform all legal duties of a City Clerk, ensuring compliance with state laws.
  • Act as custodian of official City records, minutes, ordinances, and contracts.
  • Assist in the preparation and issuance of city bond issues.
  • Manage municipal elections and serve as Chief Finance Officer, overseeing the development and administration of the City Budget.
  • Record proceedings of government meetings and maintain accurate minutes.
  • Prepare and submit yearly reports to Federal, State, and Local entities, as well as monthly reports to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
  • Oversee departmental administrative duties, managing all financial documentation and expenditures of public funds.
  • Assist with the annual budget process, providing support to department heads.
  • Supervise various departments, including Court Services, Finance, Administration, and Human Resources.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

The role requires occasional overtime and nighttime work during board meetings. The City Clerk will be held accountable for monetary, safety, and legal issues related to the responsibilities of the position.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent education is required; a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is strongly preferred, or relevant experience may be considered.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
  • A valid driver’s license and a minimum $50,000 bond are required.
  • Mississippi Clerk designation (CMC/CDMC) is required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
