•You must be a permanent, part-time or grant-funded North Carolina state government employee to be eligible for this position. Contract and temporary employees are not eligible for consideration.
District Court District 21 (Anson, Richmond, and Scotland counties) seeks a qualified candidate to perform a variety of secretarial and administrative tasks for the Chief District Court Judge and other District Court Judges in the 6th Judicial District. Duties include but are not limited to: Screens callers and visitors, answers inquiries, secures and gives information. Screens and routes mail according to contents of communication including email. Schedules appointments and meetings, makes travel arrangements, and maintains administrative records for the office. Orders and distribute office supplies. Copies, files, and retrieves materials and performs periodic follow-up activities. Composes and prepares materials including correspondence, reports, and legal documents. Prepares and distribute calendars and answer questions regarding status of cases. Provides support services to other programs in the district such as arbitration, and mediation.
This position reports to the Chief District Court Judge. Work hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge of:

court rules and procedures; general office procedures; grammar and punctuation; word processing; commonly used rules, procedures, or methods, to perform assignments.
Skills in:

Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to: screen communications and based on content, handle independently or route to proper destination; apply grammar and punctuation rules; type with accuracy and speed; spell accurately; use judgment in organizing and establishing document format; give basic information and instructions regarding programs or office based on inquires; and operate office equipment such as copier, calculator, fax machine, computer, and telephones.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal; or an Associate Degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
