  • Rhode Island is seeking an organized and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Deputy Town Clerk.

This role supports the Town Clerk in the day-to-day operations of the Town Clerk’s Office, including maintaining public records, issuing licenses and permits, assisting with elections, and providing customer-focused service to the public. In the absence of the Town Clerk, the Deputy Town Clerk has all powers to perform all the duties which are incumbent to the Town Clerk.

Job Responsibilities:

Provides administrative and technical support for the operations of the Town Clerk’s Office. Under the direction of the Town Clerk, the Deputy Town Clerk is responsible for assisting the Town Clerk in maintaining official town records and documents. Will issue licenses, permits, and certificates including birth, marriage, and death records; will also issue annual dog licenses, victualling licenses, liquor licenses, as well as complete recording of land records and cemetery documents. Will assist and support voter registration and the operation of election activities and will also maintain updated street and voter registration listings; Will provide customer service in person, by phone and email; and assist the public with land evidence records such as deeds and maps; Will receive, advertise, and record Probate Court matters. Will perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent; associate degree or bachelor’s Degree preferred in Business Administration or related field; Prior experience in Municipal government or administrative office work preferred; 3-5 experience in business administration or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training or and experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; Must be certified as a Municipal Clerk Certification or willing to obtain. Working knowledge of state and local government laws, ordinances and regulations and procedures; experience with election procedures and recordkeeping systems

  • Will be required to attend Town Council meetings, as needed.
Salary Range:

$55,000

  • $70,000
  • annual salary will commensurate based on qualifications and experience.
