Job Description

Collections Counselor – DEBTOR (Circuit Court Clerk)25- 3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 140 Adams Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103 All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment. The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department. The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff’s Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department. Position Summary Perform complex and detailed administrative tasks for assigned courtrooms and departments under direct supervision.

Pay Grade:

PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Prepares and maintains a daily docket or calendar of cases to be called in an assigned courtroom. 2. Organizes, routes and files court case folders and posts. 3. Secures information for judges, attorneys and litigants. Informs parties of scheduled court appearances. 4. Provides information for various state and county offices as required. 5. Processes various legal documents for the courts and public. Scans and files legal documents. 6. Performs data entry. 7. Serves as primary contact for coordinating, collecting and processing court fees. 8. Performs other duties to support the department and other operational functions throughout the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. KSAs 1. Knowledge of the various legal instruments issued by the court. 2. Ability to maintain an established system of records and files. 3. Ability to work with court officials. 4. Ability to use a personal computer. 5. Ability to write legibly on legal documents and court files. 6. Ability to display excellent communication and organizational skills. 7. Ability to perform accurate arithmetic computations.
