Full Job Description Position Summary:

The Auction House Assistant•Photography & Receiving is a key support role responsible for the accurate intake, documentation, and high-quality photography of incoming consignments. This position ensures items are received, photographed, and processed in a timely and organized manner to support auction catalog production and online listings. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and has experience with product photography, inventory handling, and a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Receiving & Intake Receive incoming consignments and purchases, ensuring accurate documentation and labeling upon arrival. Verify condition, quantity, and item descriptions against consignment agreements and packing slips. Tag, number, and prepare items for cataloging, appraisal, or display. Maintain orderly and secure storage of incoming and outgoing property. Photography Photograph auction items for online listings and printed catalogs using professional lighting and equipment. Capture multiple angles and detail shots that represent each item accurately and attractively. Edit images for clarity, consistency, and file optimization using photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom). Ensure all images are appropriately named, sized, and uploaded into the auction management system. Inventory & Catalog Support Enter and update item descriptions, dimensions, and condition notes into the inventory or auction software. Assist cataloging team with researching or verifying item details when necessary. Maintain inventory organization and assist with tracking item movement throughout the auction process. Operational Support Assist with setting up for previews, auctions, and exhibitions as needed, including moving and staging items. Help with packing and shipping duties post-sale or when requested. Provide general support to the auction team during sale periods and auction-day operations. Communicate professionally with clients, vendors, and team members regarding incoming items and logistics. •

Qualifications:

Prior experience in product or artwork photography preferred. Familiarity with auction environments, galleries, or similar operational settings a plus. Working knowledge of digital cameras, lighting, and editing software. Ability to lift and move objects safely (up to 50 lbs); familiarity with handling art, antiques, or collectibles is advantageous. Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment. Flexibility to work extended hours around auction events or seasonal peaks.
