Full Job Description Position Characteristics :
Under the direction of the I & A Director, the Clerical Intake Coordinator is responsible for conducting telephone interviews and providing information and assistance to the elderly and their family members, friends and/or designated representatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To reflect in all aspects of job performance the mission of the East Baton Rouge Council on the Aging, Inc. ?serving the elderly in East Baton Rouge Parish, to enrich and enhance their quality of life through advocacy efforts, creative planning, and coordination and provision of needed services, and to make it possible for them to live independent lives as long as possible.? Conduct telephone interviews to gain information to assist in making referrals to proper programs and agencies Provide information on EBRCOA programs and community services Refer callers to outside resources as necessary Take applications for various programs and services Follow up on telephone inquiries Research and collect information on new resources Mail information to clients and family members Perform data entry Participate in community activities and outreach programs Maintain files and other clerical duties as required Maintain client confidentiality Prepare reports by collecting and analyzing information Secure information by completing data base backups Actively participate in department staff meeting Attend meetings with various social service agencies and business for Information & Assistance continuing education Coordinate Food Pantry activities Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of the EBRCOA as presented in mission/philosophy statements Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, clients and visitors; cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in diverse workplace and with a diverse client population Able to comfortably and respectfully serve the special needs of an elder client population Excellent telephone communication skills Knowledge of community services available to the elderly is desirable High school graduate or equivalent and a minimum of 1-year experience working directly with the elderly or disabled in direct services environment Must maintain the confidential of client information at all times Emotional maturity, flexibility, and excellent interpersonal and management skills High energy, positive, ?can-do? attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrate ability to write clearly and persuasively Demonstrate ability to think strategically and possess a thorough understanding of strategic development Good computer skills and knowledge of data base programs
