DESCRIPTION
Position:
Transportation Operations Assistant Job Goals:

The Transportation Operations Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the district’s transportation services. This position is responsible for assisting in coordinating daily vehicle schedules, dispatching drivers, maintaining transportation records, providing administrative support to the department, and delivering outstanding service to families, staff, and external partners.

Transportation Director Experience and Training:

1. High School diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary coursework in transportation, business, or related field preferred 2. At least one (1) year of experience in a transportation environment preferred 3. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills 4. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment 5. Demonstrated ability to independently solve operational problems and make sound decisions 6. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and general comfort with technology, including tablets and GPS systems 7. Prior experience working with children and/or individuals with special needs preferred. 8. Ability to work cooperatively in a small office setting and adapt to changing assignments and priorities

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Assist with schedule and dispatch of drivers and vehicles according to route plans, client needs, and staffing availability 2. Coordinate coverage for absences and monitor route efficiency and on-time performance 3. Utilize two-way radios, phones, and text messaging systems to communicate with drivers and monitors 4. Support compliance with transportation policies and safety procedures 5. Maintain detailed and accurate records for routing, inventory, expenses, and work logs 6. Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with staff, caregivers, and students 7. Provide emergency driving coverage or route support when needed 8. Respond to service concerns, special transportation requests, and schedule changes with professionalism and discretion 9. Serve as the primary point of contact for caregiver inquiries related to student transportation; respond to phone calls and messages in a timely, professional, and courteous manner, and escalate complex issues to the Director of Transportation as needed. 10. Assist with administrative functions such as data entry, filing, reporting, supply ordering, and payroll coordination for the transportation department 11. Director of Transportation Physical Requirements:

The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine motor manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.

The employee is required to work indoors. The regular chemical solvents include toners and cleaning fluids/
