Position Description The Half (.5) Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer. Overview/Responsibilities
Supporting Dr. Joyce Rain Anderson and Dr. Lisa Litterio, Writing Program Administrators (WPAs). Oversee the university’s robust first year writing program, which consists of Enhanced 101 courses and
ENGL 101
(Writing Rhetorically) and
ENGL 102
(Writing Rhetorically with Sources). Developing a repository of online and web-based materials that focus on pedagogical practices for supporting faculty in teaching first year writing. Research and examine best practices relating to large language models (LLMs) and writing; this is particularly pertinent given campus-wide discussions regarding AI. Professional development opportunities, such as helping to secure external speakers well versed in AI and writing practices.
Overseeing the writing fellows, who are undergraduate student employees that provide extra support to students in the Enhanced 101 English sections. Support WPA with the supervision of writing fellows with dedicated office hours, assist with verifying hours worked and developing programming relating to pedagogical issues. We are also open to the graduate student creating social media posts relating to first-year writing practices as well as pursuing their own research interests in this position. Preferred Qualifications A graduate student in the English MA or MAT program.
An individual who has strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills as well as familiarity with Blackboard and social media design.
