25/26 In School Suspension and Discipline Coordinator 3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars Concord, NC 28025 General Definition of Work The employee performs a variety of tasks for the professional staff in the schools, which supports the educational environment in the classroom. The ISS Coordinator assists students who have been placed in the in-school suspension program by providing instructional assistance and encouragement for students to complete assignments. Provides direct disciplinary and nurturing contact with students assigned to ISS. Communicates and works closely with administrators, teachers, school staff and parents regarding the student’s discipline, attendance, and progress. Report to a principal, assistant principal. Qualification Requirements High school diploma and a minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework OR High school diploma and Associates degree or higher OR High school diploma and at least silver score on Workkeys General knowledge of student handbook rules. Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. General knowledge of daily routines of the classroom. Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom. Ability to operate common office machines. Ability to maintain basic files and records. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to motivate students. Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment. Ability to perform general clerical duties. General knowledge of procedures to follow in the event of an emergency. General knowledge of the principles of organization and administration. Essential Functions Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the in-school suspension room. Monitors the safety and well-being of students; monitors student attitudes and encourages self-esteem. Contacts parent of absent student. Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness. Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; provides one-on-one assistance as needed. Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students. Performs general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom; performs repair and maintenance tasks related to school equipment. Performs various clerical duties as needed, maintains records of student progress; develops and files incident reports; grades student papers and scores tests; checks daily attendance; makes copies; develops classroom display and instructional materials; maintains and operates audiovisual equipment; orders supplies; maintains class files, etc. Works closely with school administrator to maintain accurate records of student’s referrals and academic progress. Participates in staff development workshops. Performs other related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to use student attendance information and contact parents when students have a large number of tardies or have a history of not attending school on a regular basis. Ability to organize materials. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Ability to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks. Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things. Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from supervisors. Ability to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages. Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Ability to consult with parents, teachers and the community to enhance the learning of students. Salary Pay Grade NC 02 Reports to Principal Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, calculators, printers, copiers, etc. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Work occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires observing general surroundings and activities. Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English.
