Description of Work This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. This position is assigned to the District 2 Construction/Resident Unit located in Statesville. This position will perform a variety of office assistant tasks in support of administrative, program, or technical operations. Functions include a variety of record keeping, reporting, and filing activities; public contact, answering telephone, directing calls to appropriate personnel, and taking messages. Good communication skills are necessary. Position will process payroll, inventory, purchase orders, and accounts payable through SAP; personnel and other office duties such as typing correspondence, filing, and handling of incoming and outgoing mail. Must have knowledge and use of office equipment and related computer technology (Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and SAP). May be required to work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, times of emergency, and during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Customer service experience, including resolving customer issues. Experience with Microsoft Office using programs such as Access, Word, and Excel.
Experience completing and/or maintaining records and reports. Experience interpreting and/or explaining policies, procedures, and laws. Experience with letter writing, using correct spelling, punctuation, and proofreading.
Additional Expectations:
Ability to accurately use computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, etc. Ability to work independently and maintain and organize records. Ability to accurately use Microsoft Office products. Ability to accurately perform math calculations. Ability to communicate and respond to all inquiries and instructions to ensure positive public and employee relations including problem telephone calls. Ability to be courteous and apply tact in performing contact and communications that may be sensitive in nature. Ability to be resourceful in gathering and giving program information and ability to schedule and coordinate a variety of work at the same time. Ability to learn and independently apply laws, departmental rules, and regulations in performance of assigned duties. •Applicants with SAP R/3 experience will be given preference. •May be required work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and times of emergency.
