Administrative Specialist I

  • Position is located at the Aberdeen District Engineer’s Office and will provide administrative and clerical assistance to the District Engineer and their staff.

Position will serve as Adopt-A-Highway Coordinator for Hoke, Lee, Moore, Richmond, and Scotland County. Additional duties include answering multiline phone system, assisting general public, processing worker’s compensation and accident reports, creating purchase orders and contracts, processing various monthly reports in SAP, Ariba, and Excel, maintaining and ordering inventory and supplies, processing guardrail damage claims, invoices, and house moving applications, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Customer service experience, including resolving customer issues Experience with Microsoft Office using programs such as Access, Word, and Excel Experience completing and/or maintaining records and reports Experience interpreting and/or explaining policies, procedures, and laws Experience with letter writing, using correct spelling, punctuation, and proofreading
Additional Expectations:

Applicant must have the ability to work independently; prioritize daily tasks; independently process technical information; follow oral and written instructions; operate computers, copy machine, fax machine, multi-line telephone system, and scanner. Applicant should be able to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form in order to communicate with the public, DOT employees, and governmental officials. Position is subject to work nights and weekends as needed during inclement weather. Applicant must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle.
