General Surgery as a Full-Time Office Assistant II! Are you organized, personable, and detail-driven? UPMC’s Greater Lakes Physician Practice (GLPP) General Surgery is seeking a Full-Time Office Assistant II to be the welcoming face of our busy, high-performing surgical office. This role is your opportunity to make a lasting impact—working Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM , with no weekends or holidays required . As the first person patients see when they arrive and the voice they hear when they call, you will truly set the tone for their entire experience. In this fast-paced role, you’ll schedule appointments, collect and enter complete demographic and insurance information, and support communication between patients and departments. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately and efficiently are essential to your success. Previous administrative and/or front office experience is preferred , especially in a healthcare setting. Responsibilities:

Verify necessary information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system. Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments. Complete necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and referrals. Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing. Maintain a clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading materials. Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing. Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provide any necessary instructions/directions. Inform appropriate department/person of patients’ arrival performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions. Assist with inpatient billing process. Assist physicians with transcription and dictation issues and concerns and review process for accuracy Process medical records release requests. Identify stock levels of office supplies and assist with ordering and inventory management. Maintain and update current information on physicians’ schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed. Answer telephone, screen calls, take messages, and provide information in a courteous manner. Schedule diagnostic testing and obtain insurance authorizations, verifications, and referrals in a timely fashion Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/reconciliation, and other tasks. Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule patient appointments. Relay necessary messages to staff and providers.

Required:

High school diploma or GED Three years of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Word processing and computer experience required.

Preferred:

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
