The hospital provides a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic and family support services to the residents of Central Harlem, West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood. Harlem is the largest hospital in the area, capable of treating the most seriously ill. Harlem provides over 90 specialized ambulatory care services, dentistry and oral surgery, behavioral health services, and community substance abuse treatment. Duties & Responsibilities Under supervision, with latitude for independent judgment, performs one or more of the following:

Examples of Typical Tasks:

1. Supervises personnel performing data processing functions in the areas of data entry, data control/coding, production control. 2. Under the direction of the unit head, assists in supervising personnel performing responsible clerical and related activities by processing, recording, financial counseling, checking, and maintaining records, furnishing information, and preparing reports. Assignment Level Iva (In New York City Health + Hospitals only) Under supervision, in addition to performing the duties of the lower Assignment Levels at a higher level, also performs one or more of the following: 1. Supervises the activities of a section where clerical support staff are performing routine and responsible clerical tasks in a line operation area. Supervisory activities include, but are not limited to, assigning work, scheduling clerical support staff hours, reviewing work of subordinates and ensuring imposed deadlines are met. 2. Resolves difficult work flow problems associated with manual or automated clerical support systems, often in non-standard situations, by adjusting work procedures and methods. Minimum Qualifications 1. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and 2. Six (6) months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience and/or experience interacting with the public, such as processing sales; taking, processing, and delivering orders; obtaining and dispensing information; listening to and resolving customers concerns, problems, and complaints; and/or performing related customer service activities.

Skills Requirement:

Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
