Day Program Instructor 3.3 3.3 out of 5 stars 112-33 199th Street, Saint Albans, NY 11412 Position Summary The Day Program Instructor is responsible for maintaining an atmosphere conducive to habilitation, within the specialized program area. The Instructor supervises Assistant Instructors and interfaces with clinical staff in the implementation of educational objectives and training within the total program. Essential Job Functions Assume responsibility for continued evaluation, development and implementation of their assigned curriculum area. Provide habilitation services based on individual preferences and choices through an active treatment approach. Maintain a harmonious and productive atmosphere in the program room between staff and individuals based on mutual respect. Determine assignments for individual staff members working in the curriculum area. These assignments include, but are not limited to: a. Correct goal implementation b. Daily data collection c. Following the activity schedule d. Behavioral Programs implementation e. Lunch coverage f. Trips Ensure that the completion of said assignments meet the agency policy. Train new staff members to the specifics of their teaching responsibilities within the program area. Ensure adequate coverage, in accordance with agency policy, within the program area while consumers are present. Being active member of the Interdisciplinary Team for individuals receiving services in the curriculum area. Ensure that all recommendations provided by the Interdisciplinary Team are followed through. Evaluate and conduct annual assessments of individuals in accordance with established policy. Maintains appropriate daily, monthly / semimonthly, and annual reports on each individual receiving services within the program area. Ensure all paperwork is submitted within the time frame establish by agency and OPWDD policies. Be alert to individual medical concerns and ensure prompt reporting of these to the Program Nurse. Ensure that Incident Reports are completed and submitted program administration. Supervise Assistant Instructors. Supervise and monitor the performance of Staff members reporting to them. Meet with staff on a regular basis, ensure positive coaching, mentoring and training is provided to enable Staff to reach their full potential. Ensure that performance evaluation is completed on a regular (at least quarterly) basis. Complete performance evaluations and New Employee evaluation in a timely manner. Attend all staff meetings and special functions as necessary. Maintain integrity of curriculum materials and submit requests for repair or replacement to the program administrator. Ensure that goal related equipment is ordered and on hand. Be alert all maintenance concerns and ensure the prompt reporting of such to the program Director or other supervisor. Accept assignments at the discretion of the Program Administrator. Engage in all duties as required. Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in the area of education, psychology, rehabilitation or other human related service fields from an accredited university is preferred. At least 1 year’s work experience with the developmentally disabled to qualify as a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) Achieved and maintained certification in CPR, First Aid and SCIP. Excellent verbal and communication skills Demonstrated ability to communicate, collaborate and partner cross-functionally Demonstrated strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills Clearance through state mandated Background / Fingerprint Check(s) required. Must be able to communicate effectively with others and individuals served. Ability to safely assist lifting individuals of various weights and 20 lbs. items.
