Summary
- The Department of Behavioral Sciences at Freed-Hardeman University invites applications for a secretary to work with the undergraduate programs in the Department of Behavioral Sciences.
The secretary works with the department chair, program coordinators of the undergraduate majors, and departmental faculty to complete secretarial, clerical, and administrative tasks. They will communicate with faculty, students, and potential students and be a positive representative of Freed-Hardeman University and the departmental programs. They also serve as a liaison with other academic departments, as well as assign and review the work of student workers and graduate assistants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Works directly with the chair of the Department of Behavioral Science and the director of the Social Work Program. Plans and organizes work activities each week; works with student files on a daily basis; prepares reports and other documents for the administration as needed. Coordinates collection of documents and data to meet various academic deadlines throughout the year, including textbook requisitions, syllabi, course schedules, and workloads. Assists faculty members in the preparation of classroom materials and in test preparation and grading tests and/or assignments. Drafts and/or types a variety of documents and forms. Manages and updates the departmental websites; edits, proofs, revises, and submits for approval to Web Master. Prepares special reports and performs special projects that may require researching, gathering, and organizing information from a variety of sources. Prepares spreadsheets and/or Excel documents, especially for maintaining enrollments, credit hours, and student headcount. Assists the director of the Social Work program in reports for the Council on Social Work Education and assists in the preparation of accreditation documents. Responsible for processing new student application folders. Responds to phone calls and correspondence from prospective students, students, and faculty. Maintains all undergraduate student files in the departmental office; monitoring counseling guides; preparing graduation paperwork and submitting to Registrar. Privacy is a priority when dealing with student records. Performs various other duties when asked or needed. Supervisory Responsibilities Coordinates and supervises the work of student workers and graduate assistants.

Requirements An active member in good standing of the churches of Christ. An earned associate’s degree (A.A.) or higher, or one to two years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, students, or employees of organization. Skills in basic mathematical operations and computer proficiency.
Compensation:
Position rank will be based on degree and experience. Salary will be commensurate with degree, background, and experience.
