Visitor Services Specialist – Part-Time

Days Per Month Job Overview:

We are seeking a Visitor Services Specialist to serve as a warm and informed first point of contact for our visitors at the Rocky Mount State Historic Site. This part-time, seasonal position plays a crucial role in enriching the visitor experience. Initially, the role requires availability for 2-4 days per month, with the potential for increased hours during the holiday season and as a backup on an as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities:
Guest Services:
  • Warmly greet and check-in visitors upon arrival.
  • Provide insightful information about the museum, its exhibits, events, and the historical significance of the site.
  • Assist visitors with ticket purchases and gift shop selections, ensuring a seamless and pleasant experience.
Communication:
  • Handle incoming calls, adeptly addressing inquiries or directing them to the appropriate department.
  • Return calls as necessary and relay important messages to relevant staff members.
Maintenance of Public Areas:
  • Maintain the tidiness and presentation of the gift shop, lobby, and bathrooms.
  • Conduct regular checks and cleaning of bathrooms during the shift.
Administrative Support:
  • Assist the Executive Director and staff with various tasks to foster efficient museum operations.
  • Undertake basic administrative duties, including but not limited to, filing, data entry, and record-keeping.
  • Manage daily cash drawer operations, ensuring accurate counting and secure storage of funds.

Responsibly transition funds to the site’s safe at the close of business.

Flexible Availability:

Exhibit flexibility in schedule to accommodate increased hours during the holiday season and to serve as a backup on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications:
  • Preferred minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role; museum experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of US and Tennessee history.
  • Proficiency in technology, including ticketing systems and basic office software.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • A collaborative spirit and willingness to adapt to varying work schedules.
Additional Information:

This part-time role initially requires availability for 2-4 days per month. However, there’s potential for increased hours, especially during the holiday season. We value flexibility and are open to working with you to accommodate additional hours as per your availability and the site’s operational needs.

Available shifts and compensation:

We have available shifts all days of the week. Compensation is $7.50 – $10.00/hour.
