Job Summary:
The Satellite Office Supervisor/Broker is responsible for overseeing a team of underwriters and support staff, ensuring the team follows company policies and procedures as well as growing a book of business for an assigned group of retailers. This role requires a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, and underwriting principles. The supervisor ensures adherence to company policies, industry standards, and supports team development while maintaining high productivity and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management:
(Office) Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to a team of underwriters and support staff, ensuring high performance, accuracy, and compliance. Work with senior management and LOB leaders as respects their team members in regards to attendance, hybrid work, or anything impacting performance.
Risk Assessment:
(Broker) Oversee the evaluation of applications for commercial insurance products to assess risk and determine eligibility. Work to achieve financial goals.
Approval Authority:
(Broker) Approve or reject applications within assigned authority limits and ensure that underwriting decisions are sound, compliant, and align with company policies.
Process Improvement:
(Office) Identify opportunities for improving company processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy. This includes observations of the office staff performance.
Training and Development:
(Office) Provide ongoing support for training and professional development to the office team, ensuring they are up-to-date with industry regulations, products, and company policies.
Compliance:
(Broker) Ensure all underwriting activities comply with internal and external regulations, including state and federal laws.
Reporting:
(Office) Prepare and present regular reports on office performance, key metrics, and trends to management.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
(Office) Work closely with other departments (commercial lines, personal lines, support, etc.) to ensure a smooth and efficient process. Provide feedback on their respective staff.
Customer Service:
(Office/Broker) Act as an escalation point/liasion for complex or high-risk underwriting cases, providing resolution to both internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, risk management, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of underwriting experience with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role.
Certifications:
Relevant certifications (e.g., Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Underwriting (AU), etc.) are a plus.
Skills:
o Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. o Excellent leadership and communication skills. o Thorough understanding of underwriting policies, guidelines, and compliance standards. o Proficiency in underwriting software and other related tools. o Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
