Position Overview
Under the direct supervision of a designated supervisor, performs complicated clerical work assisting in the maintenance of an accurate listing of real/personal property owners. Work involves assisting taxpayers in making proper assessments, working with taxpayers in person or on the telephone concerning problems with their property assessment. Work is performed independently; however, the employee must abide by the office procedures and policies established in the department.
This is primarily a Receptionist role with the responsibilities of answering the phones.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(All duties listed may not be included in any one position, nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
Records Management Assists in maintaining accurate records.
Public Relations Explains department procedures and policies to the general public and answers complaints.
General Clerical Files, answers telephones, operate standard office machines, and performs other general clerical duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Education and Experience High School Diploma supplemented by college / technical school level courses, including or supplemented by courses in business practices; experience in office-related clerical work is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer equipment.
Skilled in English, Math, and Spelling.
Ability to sort and process forms and records.
Ability to learn and follow department rules, procedures, and functions.
Ability to read, comprehend and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Other Requirements
Physical Characteristics Should have the ability to sit or stand for long periods.
Communication skills are necessary for relating verbally to the general public by telephone or within the office.
Flexible work hours may be necessary for overtime during peak work periods.
Must be willing to travel to complete educational requirements and any continuing education that may be expected. Work Schedule
