Duties Description The New York State Senate is seeking applications for a motivated, organized, and detail oriented individual to fill the position of Telephone Operator in the Maintenance and Operations Department. The professional for this role will be responsible for creating a positive first impression for all visitors and employees alike. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Transferring incoming calls to the appropriate offices
  • Looking up numbers as needed for Senate staff for members of the Legislature
  • Providing members of the public with telephone numbers for their elected representative
  • Making long distance and conference calls on behalf of Senate members and staff
  • Notify certain Senate offices and the public the time of adjournment and when the Senators are scheduled to return to session
  • Connect Senators and staff with Assembly members, Commissioners, Governor’s staff and other State agencies
  • Provide coverage for offices and forward phones as requested The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates will possess the following education, skills, and competencies:
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Pleasant and professional telephone skills
  • Experience in managing a multi-line phone system Additional comments regarding the vacancy.

Additional Comments This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 9.00AM to 5.00PM requiring evening and late hours when the Senate is in session January to June.
