Req # 8102 POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for all functions related to the operation of the switchboard and registration for walk-in Emergency Department patients. Some of the job duties include but are not limited to: Process all incoming calls on a multi-line phone system, direct calls to the appropriate department, provide information regarding hospital services and events. Handle all hospital codes, monitor and respond to all alarm panels. Ensure emergency services are coordinated and communicated in a time-efficient manner in accordance with the nature of the emergency. Register emergency room walk-in patients. Create encounters for STAT lab orders from outside facilities. Update the triage list and on-call schedule. Provide customer service support to internal and external customers including collecting patient payments, running deposit reports, and balancing the cash drawer.
Treat patients with the utmost courtesy and respect in accordance with the Patient Bill of Rights.
Work shifts as directed, demonstrating flexibility with vacation, holiday and sick call-outs to support the operations of the department.
Maintain knowledge of, and comply with, all relevant laws, regulations and policies, procedures and standards.
Actively participate in creating and implementing improvements to achieve patient satisfaction.
QUALIFICATION EDUCATION
High School Diploma
EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS
1-year switchboard experience desirable, preferably in a hospital environment.
Friendly, positive, helpful disposition
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multitask in a busy environment
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively This position reports to the Patient Access Manager.
