Job Description
We are partnering with a well-established title company seeking an experienced Field Examiner (Abstractor) to join their New York team! This is a hybrid position with occasional travel to courthouses as required to conduct in-person searches. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring thorough, accurate title searches and helping the team deliver seamless, high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct title searches in NY counties (residential & commercial properties)
Review public records, deeds, mortgages, judgments, liens, and other pertinent documents
Travel to courthouses to perform in-person research when necessary
Compile and prepare detailed reports on property ownership, legal descriptions, and encumbrances
Identify issues or discrepancies in title history and communicate findings
Work closely with in-house examiners and title officers to ensure accuracy and completeness
Qualifications:
3-5+ years of experience as a Field Examiner/Title Abstractor
Deep knowledge of New York title laws, procedures, and courthouse processes
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify title defects or red flags
Proficient with title search tools, online systems, and courthouse records
Excellent communication and reporting skills
Ability to work independently and manage your time efficiently
Reliable transportation for courthouse visits as needed
