Position Description Advertised Job Summary Assists campus arborist in performing tree maintenance operations such as tree removal, tree pruning, debris disposal, tree planting, watering, staking and mulching. Supports special events and other specialized activities. May need to report for duty for tree emergencies and weather related events. Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires 2 or more years of job related experience. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Drivers license required. Preferred Qualifications Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Management or related field . Previous experience in landscape maintenance or horticulture preferably on a college campus where safety was at a high standard. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of tree maintenance, removal and other arboricultural procedures. Knowledge of proper pruning techniques. Knowledge of safe work practices. Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques and procedures. Ability to perform strenuous manual labor. Ability to wok individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups. Ability to lead a small team. Employee must use initiative and be proactive in discharging duties. Employee must demonstrate a dedication to teamwork and customer service. Employee is expected to project a professional image while on duty. Employee must utilize safe work practices and promote safety in the workplace at all times. Ability to deal with the general public, staff, faculty and students. Job Duties Job Duty Assists the campus arborist with the set up and cleanup of daily job site. Assists with rigging of tree parts and safety and security of jobsite. Assist with the removal of campus trees and the disposal of all debris. Operates chain saws, hand saws, pruners to remove trees including removal of branches. Chips branches or load into dump truck. Performs all tree care operations following
ANSI Z133.
Clean-up work area. Maintain equipment when needed. Perform preventative maintenance on tree equipment. Ensures public safety by safely directing pedestrian and vehicular traffic away from work sites. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 35 Job Duty Uses aerial lifts to remove and prune trees, maintaining clearance for streets, sidewalks, lights and signs. Ensures continued health of trees. Reduces risk of tree failure. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 25 Job Duty Operates and maintains all arboriculture equipment to include boom trucks, chippers, dump trucks, power tools and other arboriculture-related equipment.
