Forestry Field Specialist City of Miami Beach, FL – 4.3 Miami Beach, FL Job Details Full-time $4,674.22 – $7,798.72 a month 1 day ago Qualifications Customer service Writing skills Mid-level Driver’s License Bachelor’s degree Horticulture Full Job Description Nature of Work The incumbent performs complex professional work involving with planning, reviewing, executing and coordinating activities pertaining to enforcement of the City’s tree preservation ordinance and operation of the tree preservation program. Responsible technical work in enforcing applicable national, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations through reviewing architectural, landscaping and engineering plans, specifications and contract documents for new and existing landscaping and forestry projects. Work includes development plan reviews and ensuring compliance and education for applicants. Field work may consist of site visits to projects in progress to verify compliance or non-compliance of contractor’s work with construction drawings and issued tree permits. Work also includes monitoring work progress, reviewing contract documents for compliance with project scope as well as regulatory requirements. Incumbents exercise considerable judgment in managing programmatic and fiscal aspects of projects and program. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through personal conferences and written reports for effective project management and achievement of desired goals and objectives.

Oversees the day to day operations of the City’s tree preservation program, including permitting, education, and compliance Provides education to customers and residents to increase understanding of tree preservation requirements and guidelines. Excellent customer service skills are required, both verbally and in writing. Assists the city urban forester with diagnosing tree or palm diseases and prescribes or oversees treatment applications. Assists the city urban forester with tracking expenditures and ensuring completion of work funded by the City of Miami Beach Tree Preservation Trust Fund. Participates in preparing for emergencies including hurricanes and responding post- storm. Assists the city urban forester developing and implementing tree work permit licensing specifications. Assists the city urban forester with developing future urban forest related code creation of tree preservation ordinance or code revisions. Performs permit and application inspections, refers and reviews potential tree preservation code violations, assigns permit applications, calculates permit fees, conducts plan reviews, specimen tree evaluations and conducts hazardous tree evaluations. Assists the city urban forester with heritage tree designations and evaluations. Oversees contracted work for compliance. Responds to customer concerns and complaints. Assists the city urban forester in procuring goods and services via the City’s procurement process and reviews billing for payment processing. Maintains inspection records, permits, plans and related documents on file. Prepares reports, records and correspondence concerning inspections and other relevant items. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Agronomy or related field. Considerable experience with a tree permitting program preferred. overseeing Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Florida, by the time of employment, for the type of vehicle or equipment operated with an acceptable driving record. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred:

Some work-related experience with fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides, and related safety regulations is desired but not required.

Physical Requirments:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as, but not but not limited to, computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant walking and regular moving, climbing steep slopes, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to drive an automobile and perform on-site inspections at locations which may not be accessible to the physically handicapped.
