Adams County Soil & Water Conservation District Conservation District Coordinator/Clerk in Natchez
, Mississippi This position is the “District Coordinator” for the Adams County Soil & Water Conservation District, and is an employee of the Commissioners of the Adams County Soil & Water Conservation District, (SWCD). Daily guidance and work assignments are provided by the District Conservationist at the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This is a full-time position (pending funds available) and is paid as per hours need/worked.
Duties are as follows:
Serves as the office receptionist receives and refers to telephone calls; takes and relays messages; receives, opens, distributes, and dispatches mail. Keeps current records on all affairs of the SWCD; maintains SWCD files and correspondence; and follows-up with SWCD chairperson to see that the SWCD has made proper response or reply to requests, correspondence, etc. Prepares assigned correspondence and reports for the SWCD Commissioners; type’s correspondence, reports, and a variety of other material for the SWCD and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, including the typing applications for the employment of part-time NRCS employees. Assists SWCD with preparation of budgets, bookkeeping, and the preparation of financial statements. Accepts and deposits in the name of the SWCD, any funds received.
Assists SWCD Auxiliary with:
Financial records, prepares assigned reports and correspondence; conducts typing maintains files for the Auxiliary. Provides assistance with the election and appointments of the SWCD Commissioners; assists the contact person, as directed with the appointments process as established by the MS Soil and Water Conservation Commission. Provides assistance with the SWCD Board Of Commissioners meetings; prepares agendas and other materials; notifies participants; participates in programs as requested by Commissioners; records and distributes minutes; Minutes, financial reports, and current correspondence are distributed to Commissioners one week prior to scheduled meetings; Assists with the operation and maintenance of Soil and Water Conservation District field equipment by scheduling its’ use, getting agreements signed, collection and deposition of funds, and getting equipment properly maintained. Assists the SWCD Commissioners and NRCS District Conservationist in conducting a variety of information and education activities, such as preparing and distributing annual reports; holding annual public meetings, field days, and tree planting week; participating in award programs; providing soil and water conservation material as requested by the public; and promoting conservation education activities in local schools (ALL Adams County schools, with grades, 3-5, will be visited at least 3 times per school year). Assists with the preparation of Conservation plants, as directed by the office materials, literature, and forms, Maintains a supply of office materials, literature and forms. Maintains updated

materials and handbooks, as assigned by District Conservationist. Keeps NRCS correspondence file up to date and maintains
NRCS/SWCD
computer files. Provides clerical assistance to the Watershed Drainage District Commissions, the County RC&D committee, the Local Conservation Work Group, and the Adams County Coordinating Council of Agricultural Workers, as directed by supervisor. Types and delivers, as assigned, news items and public service spots. Writes feature news articles, as assigned in standard of performance. Keeps scrapbook on spot announcements and news articles. Prepares SWCD award entries. Keeps individual Commissioner’s folders current and keeps SWCD informed of developments from NACD and MACD. Complies and published SWCD ne sletter, including layout, typing, and mailing. Publishes newsletter quarterly. Types Operation & Maintenance (O&M) inspection reports. Assembles information for annual narrative report and types report. Types Annual Plan of Operation and Standards of Performance. Performs other duties, as assigned by the office supervisor or, as directed by Commissioners, as relates to the function of the office or the activities of the District.
