The primary focus will be on outdoor summer camps for ages 7-12, where you will be co-lead with another counselor. You will also be assisting with after-school programs, community outreach, and leading kayak tours as needed. Your primary work location will be Sunset Cay Marina on Folly Beach, with programs taking place in the surrounding marshes and beaches. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the natural environment, experience working with children, and experience kayaking in tidal areas. This is a part-time, seasonal role for the 2025 season. Training is provided.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead daily summer camps from 8:30am-12pm Assist with afterschool programming Tuesday and Wednesday 4-5:30 Lead educational and engaging kayak tours, including: greeting and checking in guests; unloading/loading, preparing, and cleaning kayaks Provide exceptional customer service and ensure a memorable experience for everyone Promote an appreciation for the local ecosystem by sharing knowledge of wildlife and coastal habitats.
Qualifications:
Required:
Experience working with children Experience kayaking in tidal areas. CPR/First Aid/Lifeguard certification (recertification may be provided if necessary). Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform physical tasks associated with kayaking. Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills. Dependable, professional, and able to stay calm under pressure (e.g., during inclement weather).
Preferred:
Knowledge of local ecology and coastal ecosystems. Background in biology, environmental science, or related fields (degree or hands-on experience). Experience towing a kayak trailer.
Work Schedule:
Summer camp runs Monday-Friday June, July, and into August. Kayak tours typically operate weekday mornings, morning and/or evening. After-school programs run twice per week March-May, with the possibility of continuing in the fall (September-November). This is a part-time, seasonal role with flexible hours based on tour schedules and weather conditions.
Compensation/Benefits:
