FUNCTION
Primarily responsible for overseeing broiler farms and flocks as a Company representative to contracted growers. The role monitors house conditions and bird welfare, provides expert and consultative technical advice, recommends improvements or issue resolutions to farm and/ or flock condition and grower performance, and proposes cost reductions for the company and growers.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Act as liaison between Company and contract growers providing expert technical advice to growers on company expectations (i.e. building and equipment specifications, litter manipulation, farm sanitation, industry best practices, policies, procedures, bio security, etc.)
Using discretion and independent judgement, evaluate condition of grower farm and flock against Company, regulatory, and any legal guidelines; provide recommendations to grower to resolve any unacceptable conditions and follow-up to ensure recommendations have been implemented ensuring compliance
Communicate all unacceptable farm and/or flock conditions to management including recommendations given to grower on resolution and next steps including planned follow-up action to ensure farm/flock success
Track, compile, analyze and record data pertaining to flocks (i.e. bird weight, mortality rates, flock completion rates, water & feed consumption, etc.)
Monitor assigned flocks (i.e. bird comfort, equipment settings, culling, health issues, animal welfare, bio security, etc.) to ensure producers comply with all company policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines and federal and State policies, regulations and laws when handling poultry; report non-compliance and/or abnormalities to appropriate personnel
Provide chick placement, catch and feed withdrawal times to growers.
Follow and promote all safety initiatives helping to maintain a zero-accident culture
Transport supplies and medication to and from farms
Move supplies when necessary. Will require lifting.
Install equipment (enrichments, light bulbs, etc.) in farms from time to time when necessary.
Perform farm checks, mortality checks, and disaster response on farms at night and on weekends when necessary.
Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
None. CERTIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent; Associates degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science or related field preferred
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Minimum two (2) years’ live poultry experience in a similar environment
Knowledge of regulatory requirements surrounding animal welfare and food production
Ability to identify noncompliance of guidelines and regulatory requirements and provide consultative recommendations based on expertise to growers on conditions of farm and/or flock
Strong computer (i.e. Microsoft (Word, Excel, etc.) and math skills
Strong customer focus with the ability to communicate with internal and external customers in a timely and professional manner
Must have exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate in English
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining attention to detail
Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency with good time management skills
Must be will willing to work night and weekends when necessary
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in areas where required
Read and understand MSDS sheets
Maintain updated knowledge and training/ certification on relevant safety topics
May be required to enter confined space
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally required to lift overhead
Walks in an outside environment (including inclement weather conditions) on a daily basis
Must have the ability to work in high altitudes and elevated areas
Constantly subject to dusty and hot environments
