Butterfly Rearing Specialist Flamingo Gardens Davie, FL Job Details Part-time $15 an hour 6 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Qualifications No experience needed English Gardening Communication skills Entry level Under 1 year Full Job Description The Butterfly Rearing Specialists raise south Florida native butterflies and their host and nectar plants for Flamingo Gardens’ Butterfly Conservatory. These specialists will be trained to provide the proper care and upkeep of butterflies in all stages of their lifecycle. They will collect eggs, feed, and maintain caterpillars, collect and store chrysalises, and release butterflies into the conservatory and butterfly gardens. They will be responsible for keeping the rearing area, all equipment and supplies clean and sanitary at all times. They will also be in charge of keeping accurate records and growing, maintaining, and collecting food plants for the caterpillars in the Flamingo Gardens nursery. The pay is $15 per hour. Approximately 20 hours per week. Availability Hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Weekend availability is mandatory. Applicants should have a strong interest and some background knowledge of Florida Butterflies and butterfly gardening. Professional butterfly gardening experience is not necessary but would be a plus. Applicants should be self motivated, able to work as a team, have excellent communication skills and be able to follow verbal and written instructions. You must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs, and be able to work outside year round, in all types of weather, including heat and cold. Flamingo Gardens is an established botanical garden and wildlife sanctuary in Davie, Florida. 60 acres of extensive mature plant material are routinely maintained for the beauty and enjoyment of our guests.
