Assistant Superintendent Position Overview:

Clermont National is seeking a motivated, career-minded Assistant Superintendent in Training (AIT) to join our agronomy team. The AIT is a hands-on position designed for individuals pursuing a future leadership role in golf course management. This position will work closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to assist in all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, while gaining valuable experience in staff leadership, turfgrass management, and project coordination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in daily planning and supervision of the maintenance team to ensure course conditions meet or exceed standards. Participate in all aspects of turfgrass management, including mowing, fertilization, pesticide applications, irrigation troubleshooting and repair. Scout turf conditions to identify pests, diseases, weeds, and other agronomic issues. Assist in record-keeping related to pesticide applications, irrigation, weather, and turf conditions. Train seasonal and full-time staff on equipment use and safety procedures. Lead small projects such as bunker renovations, drainage installations, and tee construction. Operate and maintain a wide variety of golf course equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Help ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations. Communicate effectively with the maintenance team, golf shop staff, and management. Participate in continuing education and professional development programs.

Qualifications:

Degree or coursework in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience). 1-2 years of golf course maintenance or related experience preferred. Desire to pursue a career as a Golf Course Superintendent. Working knowledge of turfgrass species, pesticide applications, irrigation systems, and golf course equipment. Ability to obtain a state pesticide applicator’s license within 6 months of employment. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required by course needs. Ability to perform physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
