Monday – Friday 12pm-8pm Job Summary We’re seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Plant and Reptile Care Specialist to join our team at Next World Exotics! This role is perfect for someone who is equally excited about exotic plants and exotic pets. If you have hands-on experience caring for tropical plants, reptiles, amphibians, or bioactive terrariums—or you’re eager to learn in a fast-paced, hands-on environment—this position offers the opportunity to grow alongside rare and beautiful species. Primary Plant Care Responsibilities Perform daily plant maintenance (watering, treating pests, checking for disease) Manage inventory and weekly plant counts Identify and treat pests/fungal issues with rotational treatments Prepare custom soil mixes and planting media Pot, up-pot, and propagate plants based on growth cycles Maintain cleanliness and organization in workspaces and sales floor Make and apply fertilizer, supplements, and hydrogen peroxide treatments Keep records of plant health, treatment schedules, and care routines Maintain substrate supplies, soil mixes, and growing materials Primary Reptile & Amphibian Care Responsibilities Daily feeding, watering, and cleaning of enclosures Handle a variety of reptiles, amphibians, and feeder insects Maintain bioactive terrarium systems (humidity, substrate health, isopods/springtails) Assist with egg collection, incubation, and juvenile care Monitor animal behavior for health, stress, and breeding indicators Administer pest control (mites, aphids, etc.) safely and effectively Maintain feeder insect colonies (crickets, fruit flies, roaches, worms) Keep detailed records of feedings, supplements, hatch dates, and health concerns Daily Duties Include Cleaning and organizing enclosures, racks, and feeding equipment Monitoring lighting, temperature, and humidity for each species Ensuring all animals and plants are safe, healthy, and thriving Replacing substrate and nesting material as needed Preparing and maintaining sprayers, feeders, and tools Observing and reporting any health issues or unusual behavior Requirements Prior experience with exotic plants and/or reptiles (professional or hobby-level) Strong observational skills and attention to detail Comfortable handling animals, including geckos, frogs, and snakes Able to lift up to 40 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods Willingness to learn and follow detailed care protocols Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team Ability to maintain detailed records and follow feeding/treatment schedules Preferred Experience (not required, but a plus) Retail or customer service experience Experience with propagation or bioactive enclosure builds Familiarity with common pests and treatments for plants or reptiles Breeding, egg care, or hatchling experience What We Offer Hands-on experience with rare plants and exotic animals Opportunity for growth and specialized training Supportive team atmosphere Employee discounts on plants, reptiles, and supplies
