Job Summary:
The Lab Extraction Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining extraction equipment to isolate valuable compounds like cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis plants. This position requires a strong willingness to learn extraction methods, laboratory procedures, and safety & compliance protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform cannabis extraction processes using various methods.
- Operate various extraction equipment such as CO2, hydrocarbon, ethanol, distillation, winterization, filtration, and separation equipment.
- Set up, monitor, troubleshoot, clean, and maintain extraction equipment according to SOPs and manufacturer specifications.
- Monitor and maintain quality standards throughout the extraction process, including testing and documentation.
- Collect samples, perform analysis, ensure compliance with regulations.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Handle hazardous materials in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Accurately record and report all extraction activities, including yields, solvent use, and any issues encountered during the process.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality production.
- Assist in managing inventory of raw materials and finished products.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of cannabis extracts.
- Contribute to process improvement.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Knowledge of scientific principles, lab procedures, extraction methods, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with cannabis regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in a laboratory environment with exposure to various chemicals and solvents.
- Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of computer and office equipment and programs.
- Above average math skills.
- Ability to focus with a high-level attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including anticipatory thinking and the ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a calm composure.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with absolute reliability and honesty; high level of integrity, and strong work ethic.
- Willingness to be cross-trained.
- Demonstrated ability to work comfortably and effectively within a diverse, multicultural, multi-generational environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Preferred experience working with machinery.
- Positive attitude day in and day out.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Marijuana product knowledge and passion is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Prior experience in cannabis-related fields are a plus.
- Experience in warehouse inventory control or related area helpful.
Working Conditions:
The physical, mental, and environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to chemicals and solvents and is regularly required to talk or hear. Close visual focus is required. The employee is frequently required to sit and stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach, bend, twist, climb, stretch, and kneel up to 8 hours per day, and lift up to 50 pounds. Requires the manual dexterity to use and operate the necessary equipment and hand tools. Ability to perform the extended and repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects. Ability to work in climates with varying temperatures. Ability to physically handle exposure to pollen, dust, dander, and other nature elements during an 8-hour shift. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. The site operates Monday through Friday and some weekend work may be required.
