No County Columbia Street Address Olana State Historic Site, 5720 State Rte 9G, Hudson, NY 12534 Clermont State Historic Site, 1 Clermont Ave, Germantown, NY 12526 City Hudson State NY Zip Code 12534 Duties Description Join our horticulture team in the care of the ornamental gardens at Clermont and Olana State Historic Sites. Under the direction of the Horticultural Technician 2, the candidate will perform a variety of maintenance and operations duties at both facilities, including but not limited to:
- Properly identifying and reporting invasive plant and animal species, diseases, and other problems in the garden.
- Assist in invasive plant and brush removal.
- Assist in weeding of paths and gardens, pruning and deadheading of woody plants.
- Assist in edging, mulching, and watering.
- Assist in labeling and cataloging of historic plants and general garden maintenance.
- Using a variety of hand tools safely and returning them to their respective locations clean and intact at the end of each workday.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualification per Civil Service.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interest in ornamental horticulture including weeding, pruning, and propagation of woody plants, perennials, and annuals.
Additional Comments
OPERATIONAL NEEDS
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as with others.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
- Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and gear for weather and conditions, including sturdywork boots, hat, Parks shirt, and any other assigned PPE.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including medium-heavy lifting and using step ladders.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round.
