POSITION DESCRIPTION
For 17 years, the Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) Urban Farm’s Edible Education Program has engaged students of all ages in immersive, scientific learning that adheres to academic standards and supports their classroom learning. During the growing season, the program hosts students on the farm for twice-weekly, two-hour experiential learning programs on sustainable growing practices, composting, healthy cooking, and nutrition. These hands-on lessons expose students to new vegetables, cooking methods, and diverse food cultures while providing them with evidence-based nutrition. Each year, we serve over 1,200 K-12 students, 95% of whom attend Title 1 Schools in the South Bronx and East Harlem, with many being SNAP-eligible. The Community Food Educator (CFE) will lead and implement cooking and nutrition education for our Edible Education program, RIPA’s Summer Camp, and weekend public programming. This includes delivering USDA SNAP-Ed-approved nutrition lessons and integrating seasonal farm produce into hands-on cooking experiences. The CFE will also support LSA Family Health Services’ summer camp workshops and participate in select farm operations. This hybrid position involves onsite work at Randall’s Island Urban Farm and East Harlem, with up to eight hours per week of remote planning and preparation. The Community Food Educator will report to the Urban Farm Manager and take direction from the Urban Farm Lead.
