Non-Exempt Job Description:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading a crew in the breeding, growing, planting and displaying flowers, shrubs, and other plants in public buildings, parks, property, or rights-of-way.

Examples of Duties:

Supervises crew planting and maintaining flower, shrub and plant beds and displays in City buildings or parks using various equipment and hand tools. Inspects greenhouse, hothouses, potting sheds, experimental growing areas, and other areas to determine need for repair and to observe activities of workers. Maintains inventory of propagation and growing equipment and supplies, and orders additional materials as needed. Maintains all equipment and tools in good working condition. Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and materials and equipment to be used. Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Interprets policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. Interprets job orders to workers, and assigns duties. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of output. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Maintains time and production records. Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of the division. Performs any other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Associate’s degree (AA/AS) and 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver’s license. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software.

Other Necessary Requirements:

May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
