Job Description
Farm Caretaker Double D Cattle Company Edgefield, SC 29824 we raise premium beef cattle using regenerative practices that restore the land, prioritize animal welfare, and produce nutrient-dense food for our community. Our operation integrates rotational grazing, diverse forage systems, soil health monitoring, and hands-on animal care to create a resilient, sustainable ranching model. We’re seeking a full-time, boots-on-the-ground team member who is passionate about land stewardship and animal husbandry to help grow the future of regenerative agriculture.
Key Responsibilities:
Cattle Management:
Daily observation and care for cow-calf pairs, heifers, steers, and bulls Implement rotational and mob grazing plans based on forage availability Monitor herd health; identify signs of illness, injury, or distress Administer vaccines, deworming, and other treatments under vet guidance Tagging, weighing, branding, calving assistance, and general livestock handling Move cattle using low-stress stockmanship techniques Maintain accurate herd records
Pasture and Soil Stewardship:
Execute intensive rotational grazing systems Monitor pasture conditions and adjust grazing accordingly Assist in planting, mowing, and harvesting forage crops Apply organic soil amendments and compost as needed Maintain and repair fencing, waterlines, and mobile water troughs Participate in soil health sampling and regenerative land monitoring programs
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Operate tractors, UTVs, mowers, balers, seeders, sprayers, and other farm equipment Maintain tools, vehicles, and infrastructure in good working order Safely operate fencing tools, chainsaws, and mechanical systems
Facility and Infrastructure Support:
Clean and maintain barns, working pens, feed sheds, and animal shelters Set up mobile fencing systems, shade structures, and water tanks Help with construction, welding, or carpentry projects when needed
Other Duties:
Assist with beef processing coordination and on-farm customer pickup events Engage in ongoing training for regenerative practices, including workshops or certifications Help mentor interns or part-time staff during busy seasons Keep detailed logs of grazing, herd moves, health checks, and land inputs
Qualifications:
Prior experience working with beef cattle strongly preferred Familiarity with rotational grazing, regenerative farming, or holistic management Ability to operate farm equipment and tools safely Strong work ethic and willingness to work outdoors in all weather Physically fit, capable of lifting 50+ lbs regularly Detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of working independently Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Work Schedule:
Full-time, Monday, Tuesday then Thursday through Saturday with occasional after-hours responsibilities during calving season, emergencies, or weather-related needs.
