This position reports to the Associate Dean for Extension Job responsibilities Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment, vehicles, and facilities and performs livestock and crop production activities of the TSU Research and Education Center, located near Ashland City, TN. Participate in planning, preparation and execution of Cheatham county farm activities as directed by Associate Dean for Extension. Assist with research and educational activities by following verbal and written protocols and communicating effectively with College of agriculture research, Extension and academic faculty, Extension educators and general public. Participate in training and working with student employees working with livestock and research plots on the farm. Contributes to positive work environment and team work. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses and attending trainings/courses if and when required. Supports the overall success of the Ashland City, TSU Research and Education Center. Provides supervision to assistant farm manager and temporary workers. Perform specialty work for scientists as needed (installation of shade houses, cover/uncover overwinter houses, repairing equipment, etc). Maintain farm equipment/vehicles in good working order. Maintain farm grounds Minor maintenance/repair of farm structures if not able to repair in-house, make arrangements for outside vendor to complete task. Train personnel in safety and proper use of mechanized equipment. Assist in preparing field/research plots with faculty as needed. In case of emergency, be available during afterhours for any critical farm functions. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Masters degree in Agriculture or related subjects. Basic knowledge of agriculture production and farm equipment maintenance. Must maintain a pesticide applicators license or obtain one within first year of employment Must maintain a driver’s license Two years of experience in agriculture and working with farm equipment is preferred.
