Box 3 & 4. This work order is forwilling, able and qualified people to perform a variety of orchard workharvesting and packing apples at an apple orchard. Packing line workincludes but is not limited to; sorting apples according to size, colorand grade before packing; lining boxes, cartons or crates with treatedpaper or cardboard; placing apples in containers for storage orshipment; weighing, stamping, branding and dating of packing oncontainer, and packing apples according to the quality and methodrequired by the employer. The work assigned will be physicallydemanding, bending, stooping and kneeling for long periods of time willbe required. Workers must be able to lift and carry 50 poundsfrequently. Workers must be able to perform general orchard work andharvest apples, pears, peaches, and other fruit as season and conditionsallow. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothing.
Workers will be outside in varied weather conditions with temperaturesas low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
They may be required to work on ground covered with up to 2 feet ofsnow. Orchard workers must be able to plant, prune, water and traintrees. Workers will perform other field work such as weeding, thinning,hoeing, grafting nursery stock and other duties related to the plantingand maintenance of fruit trees and vegetables. Workers may need tooperate and repair/maintain equipment, pick up brush from orchard floor,install and maintain orchard irrigation and trellis. Workers may alsorepair broken bins and build new bins, as well as perform otherfarm-related duties as the need arises. Workers may be required todrive/operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transportworkers from housing (whether on or off the farm) to the farmproperties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from placeto place around the farm properties during the workday (including onpublic roads to reach farmer’s fields); and/or transport workers to thegrocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Thosethat are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driverslicense; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver’s license.
Workers must be able to press apples and bottle sweet cider into cleancider equipment. Workers must be able to slice apples and clean slicingequipment. Workers must be able to handle and climb a 20-foot ladderrepetitively while carrying a picking bucket which is harnessed over theworkers shoulders. During harvest, productivity must be at least 601-1/8 bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 5% bruising forthe fresh market. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform dutiesdescribed in this job description. Workers may be required to work9-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm on Monday, andWednesday through Sunday. Bonuses may be offered to any seasonal workeremployed pursuant to this job order, at the companys sole discretion,based on individual factors including work performance, skill, andtenure. The employer will furnish all tools and equipment required at nocost to workers. Workers will be given at least a 30-minute lunch breakwhich is staggered between 11am and 1pm as decided by the workers.
Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work aftertheir 30 minutes are up. Workers will also receive a 15-minute break inthe morning and a 15-minute break in the afternoon as agreed upon by theworker and management. The daily or weekly work sched les may vary dueto weather, sunlight, temperature, orchard conditions, and otherfactors. The employer will notify workers of any change to the schedule.
