A Brief Overview
Primary responsibility is to implement trial programs and manage both the logistics and collection of evaluation data, as well as supporting the Sales team in their Region. Plays an essential part of managing crops from planting to harvest. Supports their Regional Manager directing fieldwork, transplanting, cultivation, scouting, sampling, and harvesting crops for evaluation. Follows company and safety standards. Works in close collaboration with the Regional Market Manager, management staff and farming staff to carry out processes related to the regional trial program. Travel to other Regions to assist on projects as needed. This role encompasses multifunctional responsibilities, involving the development of proprietary agronomic methods and machinery. The demand for this position necessitates dedicating 50+ hours weekly during peak seasons.
Essential Activities
Work with Regional Market Manager & Breeders to plan all regional trialing programs needed.
Create and maintain quality internal relationships with BSI management and support staff. Monitors and records pest insect counts in crops.
The ability to grow various vegetable crops independently.
Collect trial data and assist in evaluations/recommendations.
Meet regularly with their Regional Sales Team and manager for planning and integration of trial plans.
Yield estimates based on field observations.
Seasonally required equipment operation.
The ability and readiness with short notice to travel regionally is required for this position 5-10%
Qualifications
Preferred
- bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Horticulture, Pest Management, Crop Biotechnology or related discipline.
Required - Minimum of 3 years in Vegetable Growing Process from planting to harvesting
Required - Experience with tractors and other heavy agricultural equipment Operations/Maintenance
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge and understanding of growing vegetable crops, the natural cycle, growth conditions and principles of vegetable crop production.
Knowledge and understanding of various types and features of pests in plants and crops; different kinds of pest control methods, activities using conventional or biological methods considering the type of plant or crop, environmental and climate conditions and health and safety regulations. Understanding of pollination and insects involved in pollination.
Ability to organize and instruct labor crews.
Ability to work in a team environment with good communication skills. In addition to thinking creatively and functioning in a team environment.
Bilingual
- Spanish is preferred.
Experience in Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use Farm Management System software.
