REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in agriculture, business or public administrationandthree (3) years of professional experience in the field of business, public relations, and/or agriculture, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Professional or paraprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. Requires possession of a valid Driver License.

Market Supervision:

Responsible for the operation of the Fort Pierce State Farmers’ Market. Supervise market employees; let or lease space on the market; provide local supervision of market construction and maintenance; keep equipment inventory records and use approved methods of disposing of un-needed inventory; train and instruct the market staff in their required duties and responsibilities; develop and implement effective maintenance programs; maintain an effective market safety program; prepare annual operating budgets and prepare construction budgets. Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with division and department policies and procedures. Prepare frequent market reports; maintain a current accurate mailing list of area producers and buyers; work with client groups to determine their present and future needs; prepare articles, ads, and other promotions to keep the public informed of markets’ activities; stay informed of changes in all rules and regulations; develop a positive public relations program; develop and utilize an effective advisory committee. Encourage local producers to participate in promotional campaigns designed to enhance desirability of Florida Agricultural Produce sponsored by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Be familiar with the grading, packing, processing, and distribution of farm products. Visit growers to determine crop conditions and crop availability; work with other agricultural agencies to promote agriculture in the area. Participate in the Florida Agricultural Promotional Campaign program. Attend conferences, workshops, seminars etc., for professional development of management skills. Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Engage industry , civic and community groups, associations and committees as a department/market representative to develop goodwill for the market and department, as well as an understanding of community concerns and issues.
