Job Summary:

The Farm Manager will oversee all aspects of farm operations, including crop production, livestock management, and hold an integral role in the philanthropic work of the farm. This role requires a hands-on leader with a passion for sustainable agriculture and community engagement. The Farm Manager will ensure the efficient management of resources, coordinate farm activities, and develop programs that align with the farm’s mission and goals.

Reports to:

The Farm Manager will report to FarmerD Consulting, a firm engaged to oversee the long-term vision, design, and planning of 5 Oaks Farm. FarmerD Consulting provides strategic direction and operational support to ensure the farm’s mission of sustainable agriculture and community service is successfully implemented. This partnership ensures alignment with the farm’s goals for regenerative farming practices, community engagement, and programmatic impact. The Farm Manager will work closely with FarmerD Consulting to execute the farm’s operational plans and contribute to its overarching mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee daily operations of all farm enterprises, including crop and livestock management. Develop and implement farm management plans to ensure optimal productivity and sustainability. Coordinate planting, harvesting, and other agricultural activities in alignment with seasonal requirements. Manage and expand the farm’s community education programs and food donation initiatives. Develop partnerships with local organizations and schools to promote educational workshops and farm tours. Oversee the distribution of food donations to local charities and community organizations. Supervise and train farm staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Develop and implement staff schedules, ensuring coverage for all farm activities. Prepare and manage the farm budget, including expenses related to crop inputs, livestock, and operational costs. Monitor and optimize resource use, including water, feed, and fertilizers. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices for sustainable farming. Act as a liaison between the farm and the local community, promoting farm activities and programs. Organize and participate in community events, farmer’s markets, and outreach programs. Maintain accurate records of farm operations, including crop yields, livestock health, and financial expenditures. Prepare regular reports for the farm’s board of directors and stakeholders on operational progress and program impact.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Farm Management, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum of 5 years of experience in farm management, with a strong background in sustainable agriculture and livestock management. Proven leadership and team management skills, with experience in supervising staff and volunteers. Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and resource allocation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with community members and stakeholders. Passion for community service and education, with a commitment to the farm’s non-profit mission.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Flexible schedule, with availability for occasional weekends and evenings as needed.
